Iggy Pop

About Iggy
Iggy Pop (aka James Newell Osterberg, Jr.) was born in 1947 in Muskegon, Michigan. He is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. Though widely known as an innovator of punk rock, Pop's music has encompassed a number of styles over the years, including pop, hard rock, jazz and blues. He became known as 'Iggy' in high school, while he was the drummer for local blues band The Iguanas. He is the vocalist of the influential protopunk band The Stooges (Pop and the other surviving members of the group reunited in 2003). Since the late 1960s, he has been known for his outrageous and unpredictable stage antics. His stage persona took root when he saw The Doors perform in 1967 at the University of Michigan. Pop was amazed by the stage antics and antagonism displayed by singer Jim Morrison. Morrison's extreme behavior inspired the young Iggy to push the boundaries of stage performance. Pop was the first performer to do a stage-dive, which he started at a concert in Detroit. In March 2010 the Stooges and Iggy Pop were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

How Iggy was made
Iggy's body is made in the MakerDoll Medium Size, from 100% organic, (“natural”) cotton fabric, grown and woven in the USA. His arm joints are secured with metal vintage buttons embossed with a horseshoe, rider’s crop and rope and cotton embroidery thread. (I chose these buttons in reference to Iggy’s “The Horse Song.”) His clothes are handmade in a MakerDoll original design, from repurposed, stretch voile with silver threads. (Iggy is known for wearing only pants and Beatle Boots on stage.) He wears MakerDoll designed Beatle Boots fashioned from black felt. Iggy’s  facial features, which reference a popular photo of his famous tongue wagging, are handpainted with professional grade acrylic paints. His tongue is made of repurposed velvet upholstery fabric. His hair is made of twisted wool and acrylic  yarn, hand-sewn onto his head with cotton embroidery thread.

Stevie

About Stevie 
Stevland Hardaway Morris was born May 13, 1950 in Saginaw, Michigan. Known by his stage name Stevie Wonder, we all know him as singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist.

Stevie was a child prodigy (thus the name "Wonder"), blind since shortly after birth. He signed with Motown at the age of eleven and continues to perform and record for Motown to present day. He has recorded more than 30 U.S. top ten hits and received 22 Grammy Awards, the most ever awarded to a male solo artist. Wonder is also noted for his work as an activist for political causes, including his 1980 campaign to make Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday a holiday in the United States. In 2009, Wonder was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace. In 2008, Billboard magazine released a list of the Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists to celebrate the US singles chart's fiftieth anniversary, with Wonder at number five. (Excerpts from Wikipedia.)

His hair is made of twisted yarn, hand-sewn onto his head with cotton embroidery thread.

Katarina

Katarina is spunky and bright. She's also an athlete -- specifically, a practicing gymnast.

She's dressed here in her favorite electric blue shirt with a silver heart necklace and gym suit.

Her hair is twisted cotton/poly yarn, her shoes are black felt, and all her clothes are handmade, original designs with special appliques to match her personal preferences. (Which, of course, are in perfect taste!)

Her face is needle sculpted with all cotton embroidery thread, and painted with professional grade acrylic paints.

Bozo (really)

Bozo is a character doll for collectors age 8 and up. He is 22" tall. Bozo was purchased on January 6, 2013.

Bob Bell (aka Bozo the Clown) was an American actor whose creativity and talent brought laughter to audiences of millions over the course of his career. Bell was born in 1922 in Flint, Michigan to a General Motors factory worker. After enlisting and serving during World War II, Bell went to work in the television industry. In 1960, he was asked to portray Bozo on a live, 30-minute show weekdays at noon, consisting of one-man sketches and cartoons. “Bozo’s Circus” debuted on June 20, 1960. In 1970, he received his first Emmy for the show. Bob retired from WGN-TV and The Bozo Show in 1984, and was inducted into the International Clown Hall of Fame in 1996. Following his death, he received many posthumous honors for his Bozo character. He has also been cited as the influence for the voice of The Simpsons character Krusty the Clown.

How Bozo was made

Bozo’s body is made in the MakerDoll Medium Size, from 100% organic, undyed (“natural”) cotton fabric, grown and woven in the USA. His arm joints are secured with vintage gold tone square buttons and cotton embroidery thread. His clothes were carefully researched, and are handmade in a MakerDoll original 1950s-era Bozo design. They are made from repurposed cornflower blue cotton fabric, with white cotton gloves, and a white satin and tulle ruffle collar. His shirt features vintage red silk covered buttons. His oversized, stuffed shoes are black felt, cut in reference to the shoes he wore while filming his popular TV show, Bozo the Clown. His facial features are handpainted with professional grade acrylic paints. Underneath his outfit, you’ll find a red heart button attached to his chest. His hair is made of red wool yarn and hand-sewn onto his head with cotton thread.

I Love Lucy

Lucy is a character doll for collectors age 8 and up. She is 22" tall.

Lucy will be part of an art gallery exhibit scheduled for March 1 - April 30, 2013. She will be available for purchase during or after the exhibit.

Born in Jamestown, NY in 1911, Lucy moved with her family to Michigan, where she spent most of her early formative years. Her father was a line man for the Michigan Bell Company. Following acting lessons in New York and a cross-country move to Hollywood to become an acress, Lucy met Cuban-born bandleader Desi Arnaz in 1940. Lucy and Desi established a studio called Desilu, where the famous "I Love Lucy" show was developed. The show ran for ten years between 1951-1961. Lucy was best known for her flaming red hair, head-turning smile and her spot-on timing as one of America’s best-loved comediennes.

How Lucy was made

Lucy's body is made in the MakerDoll Medium Size, from 100% organic, undyed (“natural”) cotton fabric, grown and woven in the USA. Her arm joints are secured with vintage red buttons and cotton embroidery thread. Her clothes are handmade in a MakerDoll original 1950s-era dress design, from repurposed navy blue and white polka dot polyester, with white cotton cap sleeves, and self-belt with another vintage red button. She also has a faux fur stole with suede leather lining and a vintage pearl flower from my grandmother's collection. Her shoes are black felt, cut in reference to the 1950s ankle-strap heels that Lucy loved to wear while filming. Lucy's facial features are handpainted with professional grade acrylic paints. Her hair is made of cotswold sheep wool, hand-dyed, and hand-sewn onto her head with cotton thread.

Berthold Batkin: Just in time for Halloween

Berthold Batkin is a small collector creature doll for ages 8 and up. He is part of a series of small creatures from StudioBeoGlas.Etsy.com. 

He’s a stylized bat, and fancies himself a quasi-vampire due to his unusually large, bulging red eyes.

Berthold is 20” tall (nose to toe), and his wingspan is 12”. He’ll keep you company by sitting and staring at you with his red eyes as you work, or you can place him on your dresser where he'll remind you that today, you could be kissed by Dracula.

Flanagan Fox: Feisty, Fearless and Frabjous

He’s a stylized little fox, based on a lovely little red fox I have glimpsed in the forest surrounding our home. Nose to tail, he is 11” long, and has 7” long legs. Devlin Duck

Devlin Duck is a small collector creature doll for ages 8 and up. He is part of a series of small creatures offered by StudioBeoGlas.Etsy.com. 

He’s a stylized duck, inspired partly by Edward Gorey's dark creatures featured in most of his books for children, and partly by Feathers McGraw from the Wrong Trousers. Devlin has just a hint of dark mystery about him. I like those pointy, faceted eyes of his.

She’s a stylized little ratkin, based on the real Rhoda, who owned me many years ago. She was the sweetest, most loving little ratkin. So I’ve immortalized her!

Meet Eslie. She owns Salon Sovain in Chelsea, Michigan, the realization of her long-time dream to open a salon with her sister, Jessie. Style, and creating a positive self-image for others are Eslie’s passions. She  perfected her craft over nearly 20 years in high end salons in Las Vegas and Denver, but moved back to Michigan to be near her family. Deanna: Airwoman, Green Activist, Alternative Energy Proponent

Deanna is a collector doll for ages 8 and up. She is 18" tall.

Meet Deanna. She’s done so many interesting things throughout her life, she needs to write a best seller! Deanna fell in love with flying as a little girl, when her parents took her to a local airport to watch the planes doing takeoffs and landings. She earned her wings as soon as she could, and spent most of her career flying almost every plane imaginable. She logged thousands of hours and became an expert flying instructor. After her last gig as a bush pilot in Alaska, she hung up her wings and immediately immersed herself in the Green movement. She’s a strong advocate of  recycle – reuse – repurpose, and she also supports the use of alternative energy. 

How Deanna was made 

Deanna’s body is made in the MakerDoll Medium Size, from 100% organic, undyed (“natural”) cotton fabric, grown and woven in the USA. Her arm joints are secured with vintage blue buttons and cotton embroidery thread. Her clothes are handmade from repurposed baby clothing. She’s wearing a handmade, MakerDoll design cotton stretch t-shirt and jacket, which has a vintage “I’d Rather Be Flying” patch on the back and features gold toned vintage nautical buttons on the front. Her jeans are repurposed from toddler size cotton denim, and her shoes are made from repurposed cotton and felt to conjure up Red Keds tennies. Baby Doll Danielle

Baby Doll Danielle is a child-safe play doll. She stands 14” tall and is made especially for babies, toddlers or young children who want to safely gum, gnaw or suck on something soft, colorful and cute.

Baby Doll Danielle has yet to write her life story. She’s just a toddler now, but she will conquer the world someday. She comes from a long line of Makers, including professional musicians and artists, so no doubt she has a happy, long life ahead, filled with creative pursuits.

How Danielle was made

Danielle’s body is made in the MakerDoll style, from 100% organic, undyed (“natural”) cotton fabric, grown and woven in the USA. Her arm joints are secured with French knots made from undyed cotton embroidery thread. Her clothes are handmade from repurposed baby clothing. She’s wearing a colorful cotton gathered skirt and matching top, and her knickers are made from cotton stretch knit. She has on little hot pink boots, which she likes to wear so she can dance and clomp around on her grandparents’ wood floors. All her clothes are washer and dryer safe. Her facial features are hand embroidered with silk and cotton threads from my collection of vintage threads. Her hair is made of dark brown furry yarn, hand-sewn onto her head.
